This brought challenges for many partner communities and farmers due to power outages, clean water shortages, and devastating floods.
Resilient community centers, created with the support of Para la Naturaleza donors after Hurricane Maria, proved vital for communities during these times. We saw the fruits of our dedicated work after María as these centers provided shelter, clean water, and energy to their communities amid the post-hurricane crisis.
Our partners stepped up again and enabled us to support agroecological farmers through financial and technical assistance. Through $86,000 raised in donations, we established eight specialized brigades and provided microgrants to our partner farmers. Included in these donations was the support from Oriental and from PRxPR, who – in addition to their financial support provided Econo gift cards that helped feed 780 people.
In collaboration with the Hispanic Federation, 1,100 solar lamps were delivered in 9 communities, and 4,000 essential items were given across 10 municipalities. These items included food, ice, hygiene products, and diapers.
These are just some examples of the Solidarity Fund’s reach across so many of our communities. As always, we keep looking to nature for solutions that ensure our collective health and well-being.
