‘Collaboration is key for conservation’, this was the core message of Carmen Guerrero, Secretary of Puerto Rico’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR), at the Second Natural Protected Areas Congress (28-29, August 2014) taking place at the Conservatorio de Música, San Juan.
There are positive news in the trajectory for collaboration among diverse stakeholders for conservation and natural protected areas in Puerto Rico. From strategic planning to targeting high priority conservation areas, to working with NGO Conservation Groups and communities, there is a common vision to increase conservation and preservation of important terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
The secretary of DNR applauds Para la Naturaleza for the 33 % for 2033 vision and the efforts in conserving lands through the Conservation Easement Program.
Para la Naturaleza works closely with private land owners to develop sustainable practices for use of lands that are aligned to conservation.
