Greening Puerto Rico’s Future: Arbor Day Foundation Plants the Seeds of Change

On Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 1, Para la Naturaleza (PLN) hosted 23 employees from the Arbor Day Foundation, including CEO Dan Lambe. This visit was two years in the making which included a postponement due to COVID-19. Their visit also concluded their organization’s 50th anniversary celebration. All the staff members, hailing from Nebraska, were joined by PLN’s President, Fernando Lloveras and Reforestation Superintendent, Ahmed Pérez. Most importantly, during their time with PLN, they planted 100 trees at La Pitahaya Natural Protected Area in Canóvanas and visited the Rio Piedras Tree Nursery.

During our three-year partnership with Arbor Day Foundation, and thanks to special collaborators like Verizon and FedEx, they have awarded over $260,000 to PLN to produce, plant and maintain for five years over 3,600 native and endemic trees in Ceiba, Canóvanas and Lajas. They also sponsored La Siembra, which is our annual planting event, in 2022, and will sponsor  La Siembra in 2023. The two-day visit to Puerto Rico further strengthened the strong alliance between both organizations. Similar to PLN, the Arbor Day Foundation is committed to inspiring people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.

Arbor Day Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation and education organization. A million members, donors and partners support their programs to make the world greener and healthier.
